Blog Post 307: Painted Bathroom Vanity

Before: dark brown wood vanity.

My number one goal for my condo in North Carolina is to get the kitchen painted. However, I didn't quite have the confidence that I could get the job done on this visit. So instead I focused on the master bathroom which is a much smaller project.

I focused on painting the master bathroom vanity before I tackle the kitchen cabinets.

As you can see the mirror doesn't coordinate with the wood cabinets, so I was hoping that painting everything white would tie it all together.

The part about the bathroom that really bothered me were the drawer liners. They were just so old and dirty looking that I didn't want to put any of my personal items in the drawers.

The old drawer liners were just gross.

Speaking of dirty, just look at the dust on the inside of the cabinets! The condo is cleaned after each time it is rented; however, it looks like the inside of the cabinets aren't on the cleaning list. I cleaned and scrubbed all the cabinets in both bathrooms and the kitchen, and will do so again after each of my visits.

So. Much. Dirt.

(For your convenience, this post contains affiliate links of the products I actually used for this project.)

After vacuuming and wiping down everything, I used Heirloom Traditions Deglosser to prep the base cabinets, doors, and drawers for paint. The paint has a built-in bonding primer. so I didn't need to prime first. I painted the vanity and mirror in Heirloom Traditions All-in-One paint in the color Cashmere. In addition to the built-in primer, it also has a top coat built in, so I didn't need to seal the paint.

I also added new drawer knobs. And new hinges, too! The hinges are white so they blend nicely with the new paint.

New white hinges blend well with the painted cabinetry.

Remember the old drawer liners? That was an easy fix with removable contact paper. Even though I didn't paint the second bathroom or kitchen, I did go ahead and remove and replace all the old shelf liners.

New drawer liners really freshened up the space. Quick and easy.

The painting itself went fairly quickly. I painted four coats on the bases and inside doors on day one. On day two I painted four coats on the outside of the doors. Whites and light colors always require more coats for good coverage.

The lighting wasn't good, but I think you can see how much brighter and cleaner everything looks now. On a future visit I will paint the walls to work with my overall new color scheme.

New drawer knobs were the icing on the cake.

It's hard working out of state, but I can't complain when break time comes around.

Ah break time after painting!

I was proud that I was able to DIY this project.
