Blog Post #302: Duck Egg Blue Dresser

Before photo of dresser from a local thrift store.

When buying used furniture it's important to factor in the overall condition of the piece and the cost of both time and money for repairs. Replacing drawer pulls is an easy fix, but it can get costly depending on the number of pulls that need replacement. So take into account how much it will cost and make sure you can recoup the cost and still make a profit.

I did consider replacing the drawer pulls on this dresser, but in the end I spent too much time on freshening up the drawer interiors, so I decided to keep the original pulls. The back of each drawer front had unsightly drips and runs from the original manufacturer's wood stain. There were also a few ink and magic marker stains on the bottom of a couple of the drawers.

I applied stain blocking primer, but it didn't work as advertised, so I ended up applying two coats of clear shellac (affiliate). That did the trick. Next I applied two coats of Gesso White.

Painting drawer interiors takes both time and product. But it's worth it in the end.

Painting the drawer interiors is a lot of work, but in my opinion it is well worth it.
