Entryway Cabinet: From Dated to Elegant
Here's another view that shows the actual shape better.
The finish was a little worn here and there. What I especially love is the tear drop door pull.
I removed the door pull prior to painting and created a temporary pull with painter's tape.
After applying the base coat I held up my color chart for inspiration for my color palette. I like how the blue colors look against the Paris Grey.
I applied Louis Blue to the raised panels and Greek Blue (shown in a later photo) to the recessed areas.
Before we get to the "after" photos, I wanted to share the photo below which demonstrates how the wax slightly deepens the colors.
AFTER:
The final color has muted grey and blue tones. No one will ever guess that this was a Goodwill store find.
I applied a light wash of Provence over the Louis Blue.
The Greek Blue has a light wash of Paris Grey. The trim has hints of Old Ochre.
The interior shelf was in great shape, so I left it unpainted.
The staging items I used today were also thrift store finds.
Before & After: Entryway Cabinet |
I have the same console that I got for free at our recycling center! I will post a picture of mine when I refinish!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on scoring it for free! And best of luck with refinishing it!
DeleteI love the way you did this! I have a dark brown armoire and I couldn’t decide which color. You nailed the console with all of my favorite colors!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words. It was a fun project to work on.
DeleteI would have had the cabinet refinished to the original stain. Painting such a beautiful piece just isn't for me but as long as you are pleased with the results....
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your idea!
DeleteI love the beautiful piece you created. So happy that you rescued it and 'renewed' it. LOVE the color combinations. Thanks for posting.
