Rustic Farmhouse Table

Rustic farmhouse table

I picked up this rustic farmhouse style table at an auction a while back. I didn't have space for it in my booth, so it's been sitting around my house serving as a work table. I had some room open up in the booth, so I took it up there this weekend. I miss it already!

The table is sturdy, but the wood planked top has some splits. It had about 4 layers of paint on it. I was hoping to sand the top to reveal a beautiful wood finish, but the wood is old and a bit uneven.

I sanded back the paint to reveal the wood underneath. It's looks beautifully aged, but the paint had gotten so far down into the nooks and crannies that it was impossible to remove completely. I kicked around repainting the top, but I liked the rustic top, so I left the wood natural and sealed it with Danish Oil.

I painted the base in Duck Egg blue and the knobs in Coco. I sealed the paint in soft clear wax and then applied touches of dark wax.

The table has two drawers on the front. They're a bit worse for wear too, but I love them all the same.

This table would work well as a work bench or potting table. Or an Arts & Crafts table! With the rustic wood there's no need to worry about ruining the finish -- additional use will only add to its overall character.
