Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

Well the mirror's not actually on the wall in this photo, but it's on the wall in my furniture booth! I found it in a thrift store and thought it was very pretty. I decided to give it a more shabby chic finish using a new-to-me technique with petroleum jelly.

I applied a base coat of graphite over the raised details.
After it was dry I rubbed it with petroleum jelly.
I painted the mirror in Old White and then rubbed off the paint
on the raised areas to reveal the darker base color.
The white paint was easy to remove
from the areas with petroleum jelly.
There are still hints of the gold here and there.
I think it looks charming paired with my French inspired table!
